bee's knees

I really admire the simplicity and cleverness of the Japanese patterns I've found. There is a grace and restraint to them that I find soothing to look at and pleasurable to make. They do so much with few pieces and the completed project looks more polished than in western sewing wih its emphasis on oddly shaped interfacing. Take these reversible pants for example -- and how great an idea is that for a toddler ?? -- with only 1 pattern piece.
It's plain jane serious corduroy in the morning. Then the bee's knees for after lunch...

I have such a difficult time finding pants that fit Miss LoodyLoo, tall toothpick of a girl, that I'm thrilled this is also a pattern that I can cinch in at the waist and easily lengthen as needed. The fact that it's like getting two pairs for the effort to make one and that I can choose the fabrics, well -- what a lovely bonus!
