Book Club Monday :: Mom & Child Natural Clothes & Goods

ISBN #4834724778 or ISBN #9784834724776
Of all the books from the big Amazon order, I have to say this one has it all -- clothes, zakka home goods, bags, shoes, hats, even a kitty pattern. Although it should be obvious from the title (which, of course, I couldn't READ at the time), the styles in here tend to be of the matchy matchy variety. Of course, there's no rule that says you have to make both -- or wear them on the same day at the very least! I particularly like this apron and kerchief set -- yes, there is a matching adult apron -- and this is where the "room shoes" pattern came from as well. There is a child and adult version of these but only one size of each so if your feet are bigger than a size 9, the adult version will need to be adjusted.
The Barbara's cereal box in this bag cracked me up.
And more potentially matchy things in slightly different color combos for a subtle mom & child thing. A word on the patterns here -- the kid's things run 90 to 120 cm and the adult sizing ranges from Japanese small to large, which translates to US extra small to medium. Also, there's a mix of full size patterns to trace, mostly for the clothes, and book sketch patterns, usually for things where size isn't really an issue -- pot holders, bags and the like.
A brilliant quilted basket...
Fun floor pillows and a simple lap quilt...
If you like simple styling and are looking to give Japanese craft books a try, this one would be an excellent first choice. The mix of items, pattern sizes and methods are varied enough to give you a good idea of what these books are about and how to use them. Best of all, at 990 yen (about $9.50 US before shipping), it's also one of the more affordable ones. You can find this book listed on Ebay -- feel free to click on the link for more photos and details-- but beware of sticker shock. Happy crafting!

What?! Japanese clothing patterns with FULL LENGTH sleeves?! I might need to have this. Especially since I've gone to look at those slippers a few times now...

Thanks for stopping by and please feel free to comment -- I love reading them.  However, please do not use my images and/or text without asking my permission first. Thank you.
