Gingham? Really?

Well, I surprised myself with this one. I am not a gingham and rickrack kinda girl, but this new shirt for Miss LoodyLoo feels fresh and modern to me. I think it's the color combination -- light blue and white -- that appeals so much. It just shouts summer picnics and fireflies, sandals and sand and strawberries.
The fabric itself, on the other hand, had me shouting things I won't print here. There must have been some polyester content, certainly, though I usually check these things before I buy yardage. Seams fray at the slightest breeze, hems snagged and would not lie flat and I had a horrible time with the thread tension. I have a small bit left to make her a simple skirt, but unless I can talk myself into using the selvedge as the bottom hem, I might just chuck it. Really, it was that bad. Rickrack on the other hand, that's just too darn easy!
Believe it or not, this is not the same old pattern I've been using but a new one from last Monday's book. And no, I'm not making the matching mommy version. I draw the line at looking like a tablecloth.

I love the gingham! I love the shirt!

Yeah. Draw the line at looking like a table cloth.
