Book Club Monday :: NY Kids Style

NY Kids Style ISBN# 978-4-579-10996-8 or ISBN 4579109961
I've blogged about this book in passing before but I've not given it the attention it deserves. Along with it being my first Japanese craft book, it's also my favorite and with sizes ranging from 6 month to 3 years old, I'm nearing the end of its primary usefulness. Makie (yes, that Makie) designer Yugi Ogata has come out with a follow up book for slightly older kids but it's just not the same. Afterall, it's hard to top modern takes on classics like these sailor pants for ages 2/3. They are on my fall to-do list.
And patterns for a button down shirt and sport coat with short pants are so very chic for the under 4 set. If Miss LoodyLoo had been a boy, I'd have worked up lots of variations on these for sure.
Gorgeous, clean lines are the rule not the exception in this book and make patterned fabric unnecessary (my interpretation here).
And the baby stuff is modern and sweet without being too precious.

This is the infamous smock of many colors (here, here, and here) though I keep meaning to go back and do one just like the original.
The pull sections are easy to trace and the pattern diagrams are some of the best and most concise I've worked with. Oh yes, I will miss you, NY Kids!

Me too, I want to buy the book. I always hesitated whether or not to buy the book because I could not see the pattern. Now, when you displayed some of the pictures, I will buy it and do some sewing for my daughter.

I have this book!! I love it!!! I just made the boys "peasant top" and shorts, and I embroidered a green leaf on the pocket.

it's adorable! I love your blog, btw. and I'm envious of your Japanese Sewing Book Collection. I have this one, one for adult women and Lalala3

Thanks for stopping by and please feel free to comment -- I love reading them.  However, please do not use my images and/or text without asking my permission first. Thank you.
