I love this book, I think it's my new favorite. "Flexible & Cute Girls Clothes", ISBN 457911194x / ISBN 9784579111947 There are so many amazing things in here that I had a hard time selecting just a few photos. Cute, obviously...
... and flexible! I can see Miss Loodyloo wearing this pinafore like in the photo this winter, then just the pinny with some capris in the warmer months. Same with this adorable pullover with pleating and pockets on the bias. What a great shape and detailing.
This coat just blows my mind. The curved front gathering is sophisticated and feminine without being too grown up, though if I were less...umm voluptuous, I'd be tempted to scale it up for me.
Undies! You may think this is an odd addition (no, that would be the frilly surgical mask, enough said) but after having priced out organic cotton underwear for wee ones, I'm thrilled to find a pattern for these in here. Leggings, too. I'm also inclined to work up a set in super soft merino wool jersey for those extra cold outings, as Smartwool and Ibex don't even make things for toddlers.
And this skirt. Ah. Wool, surely, just a scrap. Maybe again in some soft cord. Simple, modern, stylish.
Pull out patterns with normal line drawn instructions, per usual and a selection of styles for all seasons. The size range (100 cm to 130 cm) is still ever so slightly too big for the Loo, but we will get there eventually.

I just got that book as well and it's as lovely as I hoped.
The surgical mask was a little odd, but in Japan people often wear a surgical mask if they need to in public when they have a cold. They are also worn during allergy season in the fall. And then there are the motorcycle gangs that wear them, but that's probably not why it's included in the book 8-)
Colds and allergies, that makes sense -- but motorcycle gangs? Now that's interesting. Is it bugs in the teeth? Pollution? I can't get this image out of my head!
That looks like a GREAT book! Don't you think someone could really cash in if they started translating these books into English? Then I, for one, would really not be able to resist them.
I just ordered fabric and elastic to make underwear. If you try making those wee ones, let me know, would you? I'd love to hear how it goes...
o O O this is cute! I may have to have some babies just for this!
This book looks amazing...i have one Japanese pattern book and am quite intimidated by it. This one is so gorgeous, I might have to get over my fears. May I ask where you purchased it?
mon petit lapin--
ah, but then they might turn to you and say "no way am I wearing that!" -- best just to size it up for ourselves!
mayaluna--
I picked it up directly from Amazon.jp (you can use the ISBN number to search there) but I've also seen it at Yesasia.com (cheaper for small orders) and in some ebay and Etsy shops.
Japanese patterns are well crafted-- I think you'll find that it's easier to follow them than it appears and the tracing isn't difficult either -- just confusing at first glance. I'd be happy to help answer any questions you have getting started and there are some good resources out there in internetland regarding translations. Give it a try -- it's fun!
