On the second day of Knitfest, my serger gave to me...
... a jersey pumpkin smock from a Japanese pattern book.
In the beginning, stick with what you know, and I've done this pattern often enough that I could concentrate on the serger and not the construction. Solid color with a button pocket, just like the original, though I couldn't quite get my sewing machine to do a buttonhole on the stretchy stuff. I'm sure a bit of iron-on stabilizer would have helped with that, but I wasn't driving into town for the sake of one button. I'll just finish it by hand.

Have I mentioned how much I love doing a cheat serge finish? Yeah. I love that. I can see this smock getting a lot of playtime this season -- it'll be interesting to see how a cheap knit holds up to Miss Loody's newest obsession of playing picnic with her velcro embedded wooden food. The jersey is a comfortable weight for fall though, and the length (size 2, without seam allowance added) is perfect with leggings.
Not bad for attempt number two. Lots more fabric to go!

Very cute! Perfect top for autumn.
Ack! So cute! I am loving all your orange.
And WOW, the size of your CAT!!
Wow love this, can you make it adult size?! ;)
ha ha, I am inclined to make the same top w/o the elastic cuffs! The 12 mths fits my son but I find the sleeves a little short, and I thought for summer, I would just shorten them to *just* past the elbow, and then change nothing else. Nice work. Orange is my favorite color.
