Book Club :: Story Quilt

My goodness, has it really been that long since I posted a Japanese craft book??!! My apologizes -- it's not like I haven't got loads more to show and tell. So, without further delay, here we are -- "Story Quilts" ISBN 4391133318 or 9784391133318. The contents are based loosely on the four seasons.  Photos are clickable for closer inspection.
Spring
Summer
Autumn
Winter
Masses of charming vignettes and multiple fiber techniques -- quilting, embroidery, collage, even some actual knitting -- but this is more an inspirational book than a how-to primer. Aside from a few pages of simple line drawings in the back section, there isn't much here to get you started. Except examples -- cute, beguiling ones like these. Oh my.

But that's the point, isn't it? Take these images as a starting point and make your own world, your own story. I find it all rather hopeful and lovely.

Wow, this is a beautiful book! I love the seasonal aspect. For me, most of my Japanese books and magazines are great sources of inspiration, rather than step-by-step guides to projects. I just enjoy looking at them and coming up with my own projects. I totally agree, it really is "hopeful and lovely!" Thanks for sharing another one of your books.

I've nominated you for an award. I hope that's OK.

That book is awesome but where did you find it? I would love to find a great online source for Japanese craft books here in the States....do you know of any?
Thanx!

Hi Erika --
Yep, Yesasia.com is one way to get them but I think they're actually based out of Hong Kong which means it can take a while to get the books (about 3 weeks).

You can also try ebay -- pomodour24 and rose tree crafts are two vendors that I know sell JCBs. I think they might be quicker but they are certainly more expensive.

Claudine--
Wh,y thank you for thinking of me -- that was awfully nice and thoughtful! Now, I'm blushing. Aww gee...

What an incredibly beautiful book. Thank you for posting so many scans of the pages. I love the amazing details like the techniques for hair and actual pleats in the skirts.

Thanks for stopping by and please feel free to comment -- I love reading them.  However, please do not use my images and/or text without asking my permission first. Thank you.
