Now I know most people don't have large scraps of leather lying around, but if you've ever had a chair reupholstered, you just might. This black leather is a leftover from a club chair rehab and the chair man was kind enough to save us the scraps from the hides. The chair had belonged to Papaloo's grandfather so it was well worth saving for sentimental reasons.

Sadly, not all things can be saved. This is that same grandfather's dopp kit, circa WWII (Asia, Flying Tigers, it's all a bit hazy and thrilling). I tried to replace the zipper, but in the end, I just couldn't save the leather itself. Time for a new one.

Papaloo was a champion swaddler when the Loo was a tiny grub and so I tucked a piece of her very first blanket inside as batting between the leather and the lining.

Still a sentimental keepsake. He's such a softie, that Papaloo.
